About The Kings Head
The Kings Head is a traditional Yorkshire Dales public house at the foot of Gunnerside Ghyll in the small, quaint village of Gunnerside in the heart of Swaledale.
The Kings Head pub began life in the late 17th century as a blacksmith's; the smithy reputedly brewed his own beer as a sideline, and in the 18th century it became a coaching inn.
The Kings Head is a listed building and much of its old world charm remains, the most dominant feature being the superb stone fireplace. The décor and furnishings throughout are cosy and comfortable, enhancing the relaxed and welcoming ambience of this fine inn.
The Kings Head has served the farmers and lead miners of the area for over 300 years, and for the last 100 years or so the tourists who have come in increasing numbers to enjoy the area.
The pub has been given a new (and well over due) lease of life since Patrick Maunder & Paula Leason recently took on the lease after a rocky past couple of years and is quickly becoming a traditional local once agian. Come and see for yourself!
Paddy our chef is proud to serve a variety of seasonal, locally sourced produce, with dishes prepared freshly each day. Walk-ins for food are welcomed (subject to availability, of course!). Groups, walking parties, children and dogs are also given a warm welcome.
So if you're walking by, staying in the area or just fancy sampling a few pints of our range of locally brewed real ales in the sun by the beck, give us a visit!
